I Retreated to Get Through This Things

I RETREATED TO GET THROUGH SOME THINGS

Hey good people, and Happy April!

It’s been a few weeks since I last checked in with you about what’s happening here at The Healing Me First Wellness Center and Nyansapo Wellness Institute. I took some much-needed downtime to rest, recalibrate, and process a health scare I’ve been facing—and now I’m ready to share it with you.

Here’s what happened:

Last September, during a routine mammogram, I was asked to follow up with a radiologist for an ultrasound. Unfortunately, due to insurance challenges and scheduling delays, that appointment didn’t happen until this year. After the ultrasound, a biopsy was recommended to rule out the “C-word” and other potential concerns.

I won’t lie—I was scared. But I went ahead with the biopsy and settled into the difficult waiting game. During that time, I opened up to other women about what I was going through and was surprised by how many shared similar stories—many had faced follow-up procedures and fears but rarely talked about it openly. Why is this such a quiet struggle? Have we become so accustomed to trauma that we just keep our heads down and carry on as if nothing happened?

Thankfully, my biopsy results came back clear—everything is normal! Thank God and Whew!!!

I’m sharing this because this experience reminded me how important it is to tell our stories to others and to check in with our loved ones. You never really know what someone might be carrying silently.

For me, this journey forced me to slow down, be still, and hold space for all possibilities as I waited for answers.

Let this message be a reminder to reach out to folks that you haven't seen or chatted with in a while. In our fast paced society, we have a false sense of being current with others. Schedule a check-in call, a lunch date or bestie virtual happy hour and really share what is up with you. The other person needs it and you!

Now, I want to check in with you since it has been a minute: How are you really doing? Have you experienced something similar? Hit reply—I would love to hear from you ...I read every message.

I also wanted you to know, that we have some really wonderful programming happening at Nyansapo Wellness Institute and at the Healing Me first Wellness Center. Here is how you can stay connected on a regular basis with us:
