I Have a Confession to Make... I am not a big Valentine’s Day person. In fact, I’m pretty low maintenance—no need for the box of chocolates (unless they’re Ferrero Rocher!) or the red roses. However, there was a time when I felt the urge to do all the things that show that special someone just how much I love them. Then I realized something: all the effort I was pouring into others wasn’t something I was necessarily willing to do for myself. So, here are three things I won’t be doing for Valentine’s Day—but that I am making a conscious effort to do for myself. 1 - Giving Thoughtful Gifts to OthersPeople often go out of their way to select meaningful and thoughtful gifts for their loved ones on Valentine’s Day—sometimes even breaking the bank. But when was the last time you treated yourself with that same level of care? Today, I’m committing to being more intentional about rewarding myself—both in big and small ways—for all the hard work I do to sustain, grow, and elevate myself. 2 - Expressing Affection to OthersValentine’s Day is all about showing love and affection through words, actions, and gestures. But what about the thoughts and feelings you have about yourself? It’s easy to express appreciation for others, yet so many people struggle to show that same level of love and kindness to themselves. Today, I’m committing to shutting down negative self-talk and self-doubt. I will show myself love and respect through the words I speak to myself and the grace I give myself. Shoot... I think I’m about to go write myself a love letter—for encouragement and upliftment! 3 - Spending Quality Time with OthersMany people dedicate Valentine’s Day to spending quality time with loved ones, creating special moments and memories together. But when was the last time you created a special moment just for yourself? Too often, we neglect self-care and solo experiences, like visiting a museum, going to a wine tasting, or taking ourselves out to lunch. Today, I’m committing to creating more opportunities to love on myself by intentionally building quality time into my routine. I am enough. While spending time with others is beautiful, I can also enjoy my own company and have just as much fun! By no means am I telling you to stop doing the wonderful things you love for the special people in your life on Valentine’s Day. But what I am suggesting is this: add yourself to that rotation. You deserve the best of everything! You are beautiful, amazing, and worthy of just as much love from yourself as you give to others. Okay? I’m just saying… Happy Valentine’s Day! Much Love,

CHANGING EVERYTHING...CHANGES EVERYTHING It’s hard to believe this photo of me and my bestie, Dr. Tyus, was taken almost a decade ago. What you can’t see from our backs in that picture is that I was 40 weeks pregnant — belly full, body heavy, teetering on the edge of new life. I was quite literally laboring, preparing to welcome my second child. Dr. Tyus had flown in from Washington, D.C. to be with me, not just as my best friend, but as part of a deeper, spiritual support team. Her mom came...
IT HURTS!...BUT DO DAT SH!T ANYWAY In the early part of February, life came at me fast — literally. My family and I were driving back from a weekend trip. We saw a bunch of friends that we hadn't seen in a while and felt like the trip was generally productive. Out of nowhere, a deer leapt onto the highway, with no time to swerve. The impact was loud... violent... and jarring. All the airbags deployed around us. Metal twisted, glass shattered, and just like that, our car was totaled. We sat...
WHAT HAPPENS IF ALL THE VEGGIES ARE GONE? Did you know that every time you make a purchase, you’re shaping the market? Your food choices influence what’s available, what thrives, and what disappears. Recently, I had a heartfelt conversation with a friend who is an urban farmer. We shared our excitement about offering fresh, diverse produce and products to our customers, pouring our passion into every item we grow and create. But there’s a harsh reality—when these carefully cultivated foods...
