Like many of you, I juggle multiple responsibilities—from taking my children to school and their various activities to being a wife, supporting clients and customers through coaching and meal prep, and teaching mathematics at a micro high school each week. On top of that, I run a wellness business—and the list goes on. I found myself constantly busy and realized I didn’t have a dedicated day to take care of errands or recover from the hectic weekends of vending and meal prep. So, I took the leap and committed to taking a day off—yes, I did it, yay! Now, Mondays are my designated days to focus on myself, whether that means catching up on errands or engaging in self-care activities. One self-care practice I’ve particularly embraced is restorative work, such as stretching, chiropractic adjustments, and massages—all from the same office. I even recently introduced my massage therapist, who is also a chiropractor, to my audience on Instagram. You can learn more about her here. I encourage you to incorporate regular self-care into your routine. It’s essential, especially for culinarians and essential workers like myself, to prioritize activities such as chiropractic care to relieve the built-up tension in your muscles from long hours of standing or sitting. What Does Self-Care Look Like for You? Now, as you consider what self-care looks like for you, keep these four important things in mind: Self-care is Personal: Self-care is unique to each individual, as what works for one person may not necessarily work for another. It's important to explore different self-care practices and find what resonates best with you to recharge and rejuvenate. Self-Care is Essential, Not Selfish: Taking time for self-care is not a luxury, but a necessity for overall well-being. By prioritizing self-care, you are investing in your mental, emotional, and physical health, which in turn allows you to be more present and effective in other areas of your life. Self-Care is Holistic: Self-care encompasses more than just bubble baths and massages. It involves taking care of your physical health through exercise and nutrition, nurturing your emotional well-being through mindfulness and stress management, and tending to your mental health by setting boundaries and seeking support when needed. Consistency is Key: Incorporating self-care into your daily routine is crucial for long-term benefits. Consistent self-care practices can help reduce stress, improve mood, boost resilience, and enhance overall quality of life. Making self-care a regular habit ensures that you are consistently nurturing and caring for yourself in a sustainable way. I hope these tips help if you haven’t yet made self-care a regular part of your routine. Start small—it could be as simple as taking 30 minutes each day to sit in stillness and reflect. Whatever it looks like for you, make sure you’re taking time for yourself. As Iyanla Vanzant once said, "It’s about being Self-Full. Let my cup runneth over... What’s in the cup is for me, and what runs over is for y’all." Let’s make sure we are filling our cups.

CHANGING EVERYTHING...CHANGES EVERYTHING It’s hard to believe this photo of me and my bestie, Dr. Tyus, was taken almost a decade ago. What you can’t see from our backs in that picture is that I was 40 weeks pregnant — belly full, body heavy, teetering on the edge of new life. I was quite literally laboring, preparing to welcome my second child. Dr. Tyus had flown in from Washington, D.C. to be with me, not just as my best friend, but as part of a deeper, spiritual support team. Her mom came...
IT HURTS!...BUT DO DAT SH!T ANYWAY In the early part of February, life came at me fast — literally. My family and I were driving back from a weekend trip. We saw a bunch of friends that we hadn't seen in a while and felt like the trip was generally productive. Out of nowhere, a deer leapt onto the highway, with no time to swerve. The impact was loud... violent... and jarring. All the airbags deployed around us. Metal twisted, glass shattered, and just like that, our car was totaled. We sat...
WHAT HAPPENS IF ALL THE VEGGIES ARE GONE? Did you know that every time you make a purchase, you’re shaping the market? Your food choices influence what’s available, what thrives, and what disappears. Recently, I had a heartfelt conversation with a friend who is an urban farmer. We shared our excitement about offering fresh, diverse produce and products to our customers, pouring our passion into every item we grow and create. But there’s a harsh reality—when these carefully cultivated foods...
