YOU ARE IN PARTNERSHIP WITH YOUR BODY
Have you ever truly considered the relationship you have with your body?
I took a yoga class recently, and when the instructor asked us to share the areas of our bodies we wanted to focus on for our practice, she said something shortly after that and it really stuck with me: We are in partnership with our bodies.
What does that mean? Am I separate from my body? I asked her to explain, and she reminded me that if we take care of our bodies, they will take care of us. Wow! I really like that.
I like thinking about my body and me as partners in a relationship. Viewing it this way encourages mutual respect—respect I want my body to have for me, and vice versa. When you respect your body, you naturally become more thoughtful about the choices that affect it—the foods you eat, the rest you give it, and the care you provide to help it heal and recover.
I have been collecting daily “data” on how I feel — noticing the difference when I drink enough water versus when I don’t, or how my energy shifts with the amount of rest I get. Gosh, it has taken all of this time to really understand what my body needs and what it can do without, and it is so empowering.
Of course, this partnership isn’t always easy. There are days when I ignore what my body is telling me, rushing through without pause. On those days, I feel the impact more deeply. But that, too, is part of the relationship—learning, forgiving, and recommitting.
By honoring this partnership, I’ve noticed small but meaningful changes: more patience, better choices, and a deeper sense of connection with myself. It’s less about perfection and more about presence.
So, I wonder, how do you listen to your body? What does your partnership with yourself look like today? Hit Reply and Let me know. I read every email.
